Question1: Daily Patterns

Time

General Active Hours

1) Most of the visitors start their journies from 5 am and leave at 19 pm, with peak hours for visiting is roughly between 8 am to 17 pm.

2) There is no fully closed hour for this natural park, visitors get access to the entrances whenever they want.

Daily pattern.png

Active hours for park service trucks

1) The active hours for park service trucks mainly focus between 6 am and 6 pm, while they have a different working schedule by weekdays. From Sunday to Saturday, rangers taken one more hour for rest except Friday.

2) As for the camping service time for those trucks, they only serve after 6 am and finish their works in campgrounds at 22 pm.

Active hours for Visitors

Most of the traffic detected in campgrounds happened between 5 am to 22 pm which is the opening hours for those campgrounds except camping4(which is trespassed by one vehicle)

Active hours for campers.png

Day campers

1) Active hour: Day campers enter the campgrounds from 5 am and leave the campgrounds by 18 pm before it's getting dark, generally speaking, they enter into the campsite between 5 am and 8 am.

2) Closing Time: For day campers, the closing time of campsite is 22:00.

Extended campers

1) Active hour: Extended campers enter the campgrounds from 6 am, one hour later than day campers. It may because they have longer time to spend in the campsite. Generally speaking, they arrive equally from 7 am and 18 pm.

2) Closing Time: For extended campers, the closing time of campsite is 23:00, one hour later than day campers.

Active areas for no-campers

Those visitors who just pass through the preserve called no-campers, including 2 axle bus, 3 axle bus, and 4 axle trucks, namely the oversize vehicles. Records showed in gate-sector mean those 4-axle tricks trespassed into the campgrounds which will discuss in unusual patterns.

List of checkpoints & routes by traffic Load

Following list the most popular checkpoints and checkpoints by their traffic loads, those 7 checkpoints and 6 routines show clear differences with other ones in traffic loads.

Checkpoints:

  1. General-Gate7
  2. Ranger-Stop0
  3. Ranger-Stop2
  4. General-Gate2
  5. General-Gate1
  6. General-Gate4
  7. General-Gate5

Routines:

  1. Ranger stop2<->Ranger stop0
  2. Ranger stop0<->General gate2
  3. Ranger stop2<->General gate1
  4. General gate4<->General gate7
  5. General gate4<->General gate1
  6. General gate5<->General gate2

Basically the most frequently followed routes is ( Ranger stop2--Ranger stop0--General gate2) , it may indicate that this area has the best scenery

List of routes for passing through

Those vehicles that just pass through the preserve follow some certain routes as listed:

  • Entrance0<->entrance3
  • Entrance2<->entrance4
  • Entrance1<->general-gate7<->entrance3
  • Entrance0<->general-gate7<-> general-gate4<-> entrance1

Basically there is no clearly differences of numbers of visitors who pass through the park by weekdays, so it may be no so called "Pass Day" for those vehicles.

Question2: Multiple Days Patterns

Peak Season

The traffic size increase happened since May when the weather is getting warmer, and then reach the peak in July.When the weather is getting colder, the number of visitors decrease and then rise again till the next May in 2016.

No of vehicles by months.png

Traffic size by Weekdays

More visitors during the weekends. The number of visitors( mainly contributed by 2 axle cars/motorcycles, 2 axle trucks and 3 axle trucks) increased on Friday and drops by the end of weekends

Traffic size by weekdays2.png
Traffic size by weekdays.png

Campground preferences by weekdays

1) Camping 1 is the least choice for camping while the camping 5 is the most popular one.

2) More visitors tend to go for a camping in weekends rather than weekdays.

3) People spend longer time in the campground in weekends rather than weekdays.

Day campers

Campsite Preference: Judging by the number of visitors, the most popular campsites among day campers are camping 8, camping 6 and camping 3.

Camping hour differences: Even the camping 8 is the most visit campsite, while it is the one with the shortest camping duration.

Extend campers

Campsite Preference: Judging by the number of visitors, the most popular campsites among day campers are camping 8, camping 4 and camping 5.

Camping hour differences: Campsite one is the least popular campsite regarding the last duration.

Campground preferences by months

1) More visitors tend to go for a camping when it's getting warmer(May to Spetember)

2) People spend longer time in the campground in summer(May to September)

Day campers

Peak season for day camper is from May to October.

Extend campers

Peak season for extended camper is from May to September

Maybe this is because day campers are not going to stay overnight in the campsite, so the effect of temperature wouldn't affect them so much.

Rangers'repeted routine

Route

Generally speaking, Ranger's patrols following some certain routes as well as time arrangements.

1) the most frequent routes for Rangers is (ranger base-gate8-general gate5-gate3-ranger stop3-ranger stop3-gate3-camping8-general gate3-gate4-ranger stop5-ranger stop5-gate4-gate5-ranger stop6-ranger stop6-gate5-gate8-ranger base), which has been patrolled for 156 times in one year. (2 times the second frequent routes of Ranger),it may indicate that blue pipit's habitats are around this route.

2) Ranger will not stay in every single range stop over 1 hour.(the colored blank represent the single checkpoint last duration, in this case, it's 55 minutes)

Overnight full Park partol

Generally speaking, Rangers are very rare to stay overnight in the park, while there are some park services' records show that they spend more than 7 hours and keep on duty till next day.They may due to a monthly overnight patrol. They share some commons as follow listed:

1)They all follow the same routes( or maybe they are the same team ) -----2 routes

2)Basically speaking, they start patrol around 2 or 3 p.m. till 1 or 2 a.m. the next day.

3)Not every month have overnight patrol, some month have more than once like 10,12, while in some month there is no overnight patrol.

Question3: Unusual Patterns

SuspectNo: 20154519024544-322

Doubtful point1: This ID has 16 times of Episode(which means it has entered and then leave the natural park for 16 times.

Doubtful point2: This ID always passes through the enter the park in afternoon and leave in the midnight

Doubtful point3: This ID always enters the camping after 10 PM.

Doubtful point4: This ID always follows the same routes for 15 times(except for the first time): enter from entrance 4 on the first day, stay in the camping4 till midnight of the third day and then leave via entrance 4.

Doubtful point5: This ID always stays in the park for 3 days, from Friday till Sunday and leave on Monday.

322.png

Suspect Group

No:20154112014114-381;20153712013720-181:20162027042012-940; 20162904122951-717

Doubtful point1: like the suspect1, all those vehicles have multiple episodes, which means they do not return the id when they leave.

Doubtful point2: Apart from the multiple episodes, every time they enter the park, they follow the same route.

Doubtful point3: They all enter the park on Friday, stay 3 days, and then leave on Sunday.

Doubtful point4: They prefer the less popular campgrounds like camping1 and camping0.

Same routes.png

4 axle trucks break into gates and ranger stops

Sensors detect that some unauthorized 4 axle trucks break into the gates and ranger stops.

Doubtful point1: Pass through the gates(3,6,5)

Doubtful point2: They all follow the same routes.

Doubtful point3: They all pick Tuesday or Thursday.

Doubtful point4: They all pick the time when Rangers are off-duty.(2am-5am)

Doubtful point5: They all get access to the ranger stops(3,6)

The route for those suspects: entrance3-gate6-ranger stop6-gate5-general gate5-gate3-ranger stop3-ranger stop3-gate3-general gate5-gate5-ranger stop6-gate6-entrance3.

Suspect4.PNG

2 axle car slip into Ranger stop1

Ranger stops are working areas of Rangers, only ranger stop 0 and ranger stop 2 may get access by the visitors.

Doubtful point1: get access into Ranger stop1 without pass through the gate 2

Doubtful point2: They all follow the same route: entance1--ranger stop1---ranger stop1--entrance1.

Doubtful point3: Every time they get access to the ranger stop, they only stay on longer than 4 hours. (In this case, it's 233 minutes, represented by the colored blank)

Entrance1.PNG

Top 3 Possible Causes

1: SuspectNo: 20154519024544-322. This vehicle with 15 times repeated episodes.

2: Those 4 axle trucks which get access to those restricted areas when Rangers off-duty. Especially they follow a route which is the most frequent route patrolled by the Rangers.

3: Suspect group: the reason why they pick the least popular camping may due to their doubtful intention,(do something while avoid attracting other's attention)
