Why TSM Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley is a heaven for all aspiring entrepreneurs. She witnessed the growth of many successful entrepreneurs such as Apple and Facebook, which mainly started from a small room or back of a garage. Against all odds, startups managed to gain a foothold in the world's most fearsome industry, which is a great inspiration to many people. The entire city is soaked with the spirit of entrepreneurship and one can only leech on to this wonderful exposure to understand more from the big players. This is an experience and a chance not to be missed. By applying what we learn in SMU together with the experience we are able to gain there, this marriage might just give birth to the next Apple or Google.
Internship Opportunities
Steve Jobs is a legend. From a nobody, he managed to build a reputation so strong that even after his passing, his legacy remains one of the most inspirational. Apple is not just a normal startup, it is a story that teaches us the values that we need to have as a person in order for our company to be successful. Apple broke many traditional norms when pushing out for IPod or Itunes, this dare-to-fail spirit is what makes it so unique to the eyes of Apple fans. By visiting Apple, we will be able to witness how a giant intelligent being works from within. A rare once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
An IS student's dream. Facebook was started off as a Web Application from a dormitory room by a then university student. All this criteria resonates with any IS students. We are able to relate to the humble beginnings of Facebook and by visiting them, we will be able to understand how is it exactly that allows Facebook to be so successful.
Besides just starting a company, Tesla Motors has been actively releasing their patents and allowing others to tap on what they have done to improve on it further. This spirit of doing something beneficial for the whole of mankind is a very noble one. They don't just value the monetary value of what they do, but also the true meaning of their work. By today's standards, this is very hard to come by. A visit to them will allow us to understand that even though how successful our startups might get in the future, we still need to give back to the society.

It is not easy to find a career in what you love to do, as such, the next best option is to start your own. Applications as simple as Carousell are those with huge potential in the future. E-commerce is still in its early stages, especially in Singapore, hence the room to grow is enormous especially as people are getting more tech savvy. Also, mobile applications such as Sunrise Calendar are getting more popular simply due to their simplistic. The trend is moving towards "the simpler, the better" and I dream that one day I will be able to have a company that does applications that are simple to use and pleasing on the eye.
