Project Highlight

So in order to keep track of these unexpected things that causes a change in coding, our team has a change log. To view more details about our change log you can click here.

Below are the 3 project highlights of our team after mid term.

  • Project Highlight 1: Allowing users to choose multiple products for a scenario.

During the client meeting for the project review, our team realised that there would be a need for Product Management to allow users to choose multiple products for each scenario. Currently, user is only allowed to choose a product per scenario which will be inconvenient for users in future as in reality, there are more than a product being transported in a scenario. Even though this change will give us a high project value, it has a high chance of delaying the project as there are many functions being affected like Scenario Management, Product Management, Lane Management, Import and Export. Thus we planned for a longer duration than the other changes made and it did not delay our schedule.

  • Project Highlight 2: Improving Consolidation of Key Players (Markers).

During the internal meeting after the mid term presentation, we realised that there is a need for improving the consolidation of key players(markers). The improved application would allow user to have an option to combine the same type of key player onto an existing key player. For example, currently ABC Company has 4 distribution centers (DC1, DC2, DC3 and DC4) and they would like to close down 3 distribution center and shift the production to only DC1.

  • Project Highlight 3: Ocean and Land Detection.

Our team has also realised the importance for Ocean and Land Detection will bring to the project. The improved application would auto-move a marker to a land location when it drops into the ocean.

Team's Challenges

Throughout the whole project, there were many challenges await for us. These are just 2 of the major challenges that we faced during our project.

  • Challenge 1: The ability to make EcoPlanning intuitive for users.

As developers, we might feel that our application was intuitive enough for the users but from our User Testing 1 and 2, we observed and learnt what users needed and did with the application. It was different from what we expected, many felt that EcoPlanning was not intuitive enough. Hence after our user testing 2, we revamped the interfaces for our application.

  • Challenge 2: Evaluation for user testing feedback

During the user testing, we used the thinking aloud method where users were allowed to comment and ask questions throughout the user testing. We would observe what user did and asked. There was also a survey for them to fill in after the user testing. When we were compiling the results, we found that there would be difference in the way that the users do and think. Hence we need to come to a point to choose which feedbacks to accept and which to reject.
