Swimming instructors are often the most important assets for swim schools. Project Overview
iSwim Sports School Pte Ltd was founded in July 2012 with the aim of enhancing the professionalism of the sports education industry. Our team aims to create a web portal for iSwim, which will consolidate information on the recreational education industry for the three main groups of stakeholders – swim schools, swim instructors and potential students.

Project Motivation
Currently, when we want to sign up for swimming lessons, we usually find suitable instructors through word-of-mouth or by simply searching for their contact information online. However, word of mouth is often subjective while the latter gives little or no assurance of the instructor’s qualifications and standards. As a result, students may end up choosing instructors who lack the skills and professionalism.

Swimming instructors are often the most important assets for swim schools. From the swim schools’ perspective, they face challenges in recruiting top swimming instructors to differentiate themselves from other swim schools, as there is no proper channel to do so. For the smaller or newer schools in particular, it is more challenging for them to reach out to the public to increase sign-up rates and market share.
From the instructors’ perspective, there is no existing platform for them to source for potential students who can fit into their schedule, especially during their free time slots, which are opportunities to earn more income. Also, because their abilities are rarely made known to the public, they do not gain enough recognition, which results in them losing a potential group of students.
Furthermore, compared to older instructors, younger instructors generally possess more updated skill techniques and are more creative in developing their students’ potential. However, because older instructors are more established in the industry, we tend to sign up for lessons under them. As a result, younger instructors do not get the chance to show their full potential.
There is currently no existing method that addresses the above problems on a single consolidated platform. We aim to create a web portal to address the problems faced by the three main groups of stakeholders. By combining technology and sports, we hope to position SwimGoWhere to be in line with Vision 2030, Singapore Sports Council’s latest initiative to help Singapore achieve world-class standards as a sports hub. In addition, the web portal will have a customized algorithm to generate data analytics that would benefit SwimGoWhere users, namely instructors and students.

Managing Risk

Risk Likelihood Impact Mitigation Strategy
Swimming instructors are hesitant to change their attitudes towards managing their schedules on an online portal. Medium High Promote SwimGoWhere as the recommended platform for instructors to manage their schedules during regular events held by the Singapore Sports Council.
In addition, free trials can be provided to encourage swim instructors to use the platform so they can experience the benefits for themselves.
Registered users may misuse the rating system by enumerating the ratings of instructors, which may negate their reputation. Medium Low Limit the number of comments that a user can insert within a certain time interval.
