This project aims to improve the productivity of delivery companies by developing a system which leverages on near field communication (NFC) technology. The idea is to allow couriers to utilize the NFC technology in their smartphones to register goods, which are RFID tagged, into the system. This will replace existing manual tracking methods and thus improve the accuracy of records and management of the company’s resources.

The system will have 2 platforms:

  1. Web application
    • The web application is used by the system administrator to track, assign and confirm jobs registered into the system.
    • Other functionalities include creating a bidding system which allows couriers to bid for a particular job.
    • An additional web service portal may be introduced for customers to register their goods for delivery.
  2. Mobile application
    • The mobile application will be mainly used by the couriers to track and register the goods into their care. This is done by using the RFID tags assigned to the item and their individual smartphones. This will confirm that the item has been handed over to the courier.
    • The mobile application will display a customized page for each individual courier, showing them a list of jobs assigned to them and its corresponding information.
    • Additional functionalities such as retrieving directions via Google Maps may also be included.
    • The mobile application may also relay the courier’s location periodically to keep the system updated of his/her location.
    • The application will be developed for Android. iOS platform may also be considered.
