Project Description

AAN will be building a Locker Management System (LMS) for SMU Office of Student Life(OSL). Students will be able to make reservations, view locations of the lockers they are booking, edit their reservation, cancel their reservation and even exchange lockers with their peers. System Administrators from OSL will have access to advanced data analytics such as popular lockers, average repair time and locker allocation per school. These data were not previously available. The LMS will also give control of the lockers and its related administrative process to OSL - something that OSL was previously dependent on the vendor. OSL will be able to use the LMS to monitor the maintenance team’s performance as well and this was previously not possible as the vendor handled everything.

Students can also benefit from a more comprehensive and user friendly system for the booking of lockers as well as have an easy avenue to request for repairs via a one-stop solution.

Motivation

The current locker booking system is incapable of performing certain functions such as requesting for repair, booking of specific lockers and ensuring the assignment of 1 locker to 1 student. Students will be able to create multiple accounts, even with fake SMU email addresses as the vendor has no way to verify the authenticity. This results in old alumni as well as students creating multiple accounts to rent multiple lockers. Due to this loophole, students do not adhere to the rule of renting only one locker per semester.

Students will have to email the vendor directly for any locker related problems. This results in tardy replies from the vendor side and the school being unable to properly track all the problematic lockers. OSL is also unable to track undesirable behaviours of the vendor. With the LMS, the students can submit requests for repairs and the OSL administrator would be able to track its status - enabling the OSL to take action should the maintenance team not perform as desired. The maintenance team will be replacing the vendor, and take charge of the cleaning and reparation of lockers.
