Embarking on IS480 journey can be compared akin to the Transformer Ride in Universal Studios. Despite of all the volatile changes, I’m very proud of my team, uncertainties and the realization that almost left us with no viable project to work on; we are still able to deliver a quality product on time with the guidance from our supervisor/client, Professor Chris Boesch. As the Project Manager, I feel that I have learn a lot after having to do multiple rescheduling and re-scoping of the projects. From the whole process, I’ve learned the importance of effective communication with all internal and external stakeholders. It is also important to pay attention to details and learn to look at things from a broader perspective as the project manager.

Through FYP, i realized the difficulty to come out with the right sets of functionalities to address sponsor problems. This is due to the fact that sponsors just merely explaining to us the issue that they encounter or surface. But in actual fate, they have failed to identify the root cause of it. Much time has been spent discussing with them to know more about the cause of their problem and through re-evaluating and brainstorming ideas and solution to solve their problems. This has thus affect our project progress to identify their needs. I have also learned learned better presentation skills from GE on how ideas can be presented clearer to help clients to better relates our solution to their problem. Overall, FYP is a challenging yet memorable journey for me. As a team, we celebrate and suffer all the happening stuffs together. It is not just a module that we just do and go, but the journey and tough decision to reach the end of delivering the products. Understanding and team spirits become the main drive for me to conquer the remaining weeks of this journey.

This FYP journey is like having a roller coaster ride. Ups when we learnt new coding language together and share new explorations we have on it; Downs when we met event setbacks which causes us to redo our work umpteen times, and technical problems that is crucial for us to trace the mistake out. Of course setbacks made us even stronger to tackle difficult situations. They simulate the problems encountered in the real IT industry, especially when projects are "never" completed in time. Our clients shared much of their project management experiences with us. Supervisor guided us to produce application with business value. Through this journey, i feel that the learning process is the most important as both clients and supervisor exposed us to learn new things that are not taught in the school syllabus. All in all, in my 3.5 years of undergraduate till now, this is the most fulfilling part of my education journey. I believe that my team and i will be able to strive through to produce the best result in this project.

The fyp experience has been nothing short of enriching and exciting. The project has exposed me to explore new areas and technologies that were not known to me before the project e.g. Javascript and Twitter Bootstrap. Notwithstanding the technical skills that I have gained so far the project also allowed me to be part of the life cycle of a real life project, handling real clients. The experience has been tremendous as I begin to realize the importance of balancing the client’s requirements with the amount of time that we have. The ability to hone the skills that I had learned earlier in my academic years was also fulfilling. I have learned a lot from the FYP even if we are only half way through and i look forward to an exciting end to the project.

Throughout this IS480 so far, technically wise I really learnt a lot from all the technology I am using, Angularjs and Python. I dare not say I am good at these programming languages, but it definitely spur something within me to wanting to learn more during my own free time. As for other areas, I get to see another side of me which I never expect it, I became very demanding towards my friends and was not the good guy they always knew. But in experiencing all these, doing a project is a very meaningful and rewarding process, definitely sacrifices had to be made, plus many frustrations and tiredness that came along. All in all, it would a great story to share with people in the future for what my friends and I had gone through.
