National Communicable Disease Quarantine Centre in Gombak Area
Four main factors to consider before building a National Communicable Disease Quarantine Centre:
Economic
Target on the elevations slope. The elevation with less steepness is preferred in building the Quarantine Centre.
Accessibility
Target on the road. Example of road like service road and tracks. Shorter access to road from the Quarantine Centre is preferred.
Health Risk
Target on the building. The location of the Quarantine Centre is preferred when it is located further away from the buildings.
Natural
Target on the forest, park and water. The natural places should be located away from the Quarantine Centre.
Part I: The map layout of the study area and the factors
Gombak Area and the Buildings In the Buildings (Health Risk) map, most of the building appeared at the northern area of Gombak. With just looking at building map alone, the Centre can be built in the southern area of Gombak since it is better to stay away from buildings.
Gombak Area and the Roads In the Roads (Accessibility) map, the road lines appear to be denser in the North and East area. With just looking at road map alone, the Centre can be built in the North and East area of Gombak since it is better to stay near to the roads.
Gombak Area and the Natural In the Environment (Natural) map, the environment is quite a few and scattered around Gombak. With just looking at environment map alone, the Centre can be built in the Southern area of Gombak where it is quite vast as compared to other areas in Gombak. The Centre is better built further away from the environment.
Gombak Area and the Elevation In the Elevation (Economic) map, the elevation is seen mostly on the low level of steepness. As seen in the picture, the red colour shows a lesser steepness than the blue colour that shows a higher slope. With that, the Centre is prefered to build at the red areas which is a low ground level.
Part II: The map layout of the study area and the proximity
Gombak Area and the Buildings The dark areas show the show around the buildings. In the proximity building map, the northern area of Gombak has more shade black as compared to the southern area.
Gombak Area and the Roads The dark areas show the show around the road. In the proximity road map, the North and East area of Gombak has more shade black as compared to the other areas.
Gombak Area and the Natural The dark areas show the show around the natural. In the proximity natural map, there is a strong white sign at the center which shows that the natural area was not located there and is far from other natural areas.
Gombak Area and the Elevation The picture shows many lines which represent the contours. The black area in the pictures actually shows the less steepness of the slope than the white lines.
Part III: The map layout of the study area and criterion scores
In the criterion scores, the range is set from 1 to 9 based on the requirements from each factor.
- In Building(Health Risk), the areas that are more than 250m are assigned with 10 points. The point decreased by 1 for every 25m decrease from 250m. This means that the higher the points, the further the building is located away from the Centre.
- In Road(Accessibility), the areas that are less than 100m are assigned with 10 points. The point decreased by 1 for every 10m increase from 100m. This means that the higher the points, the nearer the road line is toward the Centre.
- In Environment (Natural), the areas that are more than 250m are assigned with 10 points. The points decreased by 1 for every 25m decrease from 250m. This means that the higher the points, the further the environment is located away from the Centre.
- In Elevation (Economic), the areas that have the slope of lesser than 15 degrees are assigned with 10 points. The points decreased by 1 for every 2 degrees increase from 15 degrees. This means that the higher the points, the further the Centre is located away from the slopes.
Part IV: Analytical Hierarchical Process
Most Critical Factor: Health Risk
Least Critical Factor: Economic
These critical factors can lead to the consideration of where to locate the Centre in Gombak.
As for the consistency check, it is below 10% which is considered as an acceptable range.
Part V: Land Suitability Lot
After combining different factors together, the white area has explicitly shown within Gombak in the South area prevail the ideal location for the Centre to be built. Therefore, it is the suitability that fit regardless of any given factors.
