The various types of lines represent the different types of land use in Singapore, such as the double lines which represent major roads and expressways, and uneven lines that meet to form polygons that represent the water catchment areas in Singapore.

In the 2014 Master Plan, I merge some of the landuse categories together. Examples will be the business sector (Business 1, Business 2 etc.), the water areas (Waterbody, Beach area), Commercial and Residential and institution were also merged together. Reason for merging some of the sectors is to reduce the number of colours shown on the map so that the different Landuse are not too difficult to visualize.

Part 1 : Thematic maps

Distribution of public education institution by school types

In the distribution of public education,

Hierarchy of road network system of Singapore

In this road section, I added a new column “category” to the dataset to classify the dataset into the different roads types (e.g. Expressway, minor road, major road and unknown road). The line symbols represent the different roads types and expressways in Singapore. The different coloured line symbols represents the different type of roads. The thickness of the line symbol also represents the type of road (e.g. thickness of expressways are thicker compared to the other roads). The colours and thickness of the line symbols help aid a better visualization of the road network in Singapore.

2014 Master Plan Landuse

In the 2014 Master Plan, I merge some of the landuse categories together. Examples will be the business sector (Business 1, Business 2 etc.), the water areas (Waterbody, Beach area), Commercial and Residential and institution were also merged together. Reason for merging some of the sectors is to reduce the number of colours shown on the map so that the different Landuse are not too difficult to visualize.
