As the most populous city in Taiwan, New Taipei City is located at the Northern tip of Taiwan island and has an area of 1,140km2. Known to be a cultural city with a beautiful coastline, the city includes 120km of the Taiwan island northern coastline and also covers a large range of territory, such as mountains, hills and basins.

This project involves a collaboration with a popular restaurant chain and international franchise that owns more than 18,000 restaurants worldwide. Using the data the company has provided, our team will be focusing our efforts on analyzing 13 restaurants' trade areas found in the northern part of Taiwan, close to the Tamsui River.  
  
With its strategic location of being close to the sea port, New Taipei City is the second major city in Taiwan, in terms of business industries. It thrives in several industries - mainly the technology, service and tourism sector, which helps them generate revenue. On top of that, a wide range of public facilities are available for its citizens, as public libraries and education centres are scattered around the city. With the presence of the Taiwan High Speed Rail, local trains and city bus, it makes the city very connected and easily accessible. Despite its current bustling city life, there are constant efforts made to improve the city by kick starting smart initiatives among the public and private sector.

Through the use of a Geographic Information System Application known as QGIS, we will carefully delineate and digitize their trade areas out from their static form, then make use of the skills taught in our weekly classes to extract out the relevant Points Of Interests in each trade area. From there on, we will generate accurate business profiles for each of the restaurants under our charge, establish valuable findings for the company optimize their restaurants' performances and help come up with profitable business strategies to maintain their longstanding success.

Over the years, Big Data analytics has helped organisations process their data; discovering insights, trends and uncovering potential opportunities. This has benefited these organisations by improving their decision-making and problem solving processes.

When the opportunity to work with Pizza Hut arose, our team was more than keen to take on the challenge. With the relevant data readily provided by our client, we will then be able to determine the shops, trade areas and analyse how other factors can affect Pizza Hut’s business across Taipei. In this project, we are excited to apply skill sets that we have acquired in our Geospatial classes to help identify potential hotspots and problems. We hope that our analysis can provide Pizza Hut with insightful recommendations that can aid them with their business strategies and decisions in the coming years.

The project aims to conduct a thorough analysis of the 13 Pizza Hut stores located in Taiwan to evaluate the success of each individual store based on their location. Through our analysis, we will take into account the various points of interest (POI) present in the subzone to come up with the following:

- Digitized maps on the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) software, based on the subzones provided to us by Pizza Hut Taiwan

- Business profiles of each Pizza Hut stall, referring to the POIs within the trade area and subzones by setting multiple buffer areas for each area

Using the data the company has provided, our team will be focusing our efforts on analyzing 13 restaurants' trade areas found in the northern part of Taiwan, close to the Tamsui River.
