Project Description

One of the key issues that the Singapore government want to reduce is social inequalities. With constant development and improving infrastructure around Singapore, we would like to analyze and determine if lower-income families, especially those living in rental flats are being placed at a disadvantage with fewer accessibilities to facilities such as transportation, school, and healthcare services. “This is what Inequalities look like” – Studying the Social Inequalities in Singapore through understanding public rental flats and nearby facilities Basic Amenities for Singaporean that we will be measuring: MRTs, Bus stops, Healthcare Services, Primary and Secondary Schools, Groceries Stores (NTUC), Food Court, Community Clubs:

Project Motivation

“To tackle growing inequality and stratification, the Government is "going one step further" to build rental and sold flat units within the same block, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong said on Thursday (May 17)” “An area with a high index for dwelling type diversity would have a wider mix of high-end private housing, as well as HDB flats of various room sizes including low-end housing. Such neighbourhoods reported more transgressions than places that are either equally rich or poor.” - Institute of Policy Studies Social inequality has been the hot topic in recent years as government start to find sustainable ways to tackle the increasing inequality and stratification in Singapore.
