In Singapore, most smokers started picking up smoking at a young age which tends to lead to smoking addiction. Moreover, most of those young smokers started out way before they are legal to smoke (a third started smoking at 14 years old or younger). Despite the installation of CCTV cameras and identity card checks conducted by shop attendants, underage smoking still has not been eradicated. With Ministry of Health’s upcoming plans to raise the minimum legal smoking age from 18 years old to 21 years old by 2021, it would be harder to visually identify underage smokers leading to illegal purchase of cigarettes. As a result, it is important to implement measures to reduce the likelihood of underage teenagers getting into smoking. Thus, our team aims to identify the convenience stores near neighborhood schools (a common area for teenagers) that are in high risk of selling of cigarettes that could likely end up in teenagers' hand.

In recent years, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has been appointing new mergers between schools and relocating them. These schools include primary schools, secondary schools as well as junior colleges. The merging and relocation of schools would mean lesser schools in each neighbourhood. This would affect the students' accessibility to certain schools, especially those in primary schools where parents need to send their children to schools. With more upcoming mergers of school by MOE, it is important for the government and schools to know the inconvenience in terms of time and distance travelled caused by the mergers and implement measures to ensure that these areas have better accessibility. Thus, our team aims to identify the HDB residential areas that are affected due to the merger of schools.

Project Description
