Design Methodology

Guided by the visual information seeking mantra “overview first, zoom and filter, then details-on-demand”, First of all, heat map is a good choice to present the overall situation in number of infections by symptoms or zones on each date, where the colour will tell us the date that has immediate big number increase of outbreaks.

Then after the key dates are identified, a map graph with background metropolitan image imported will be created to show an overview infection situation in user-filtered date with picked symptoms at every zone. Also a time line chart with infection number by zone for each symptom category also can assist to present the outbreak trend over the period. In addition, a packed bubble chart helps to find out the total number of infection in each area by symptom and we will be able to know the area of severity. Together with an interactive chart by movement of infections over the period in each zone present which places have an outbreak of infectious.

Lastly, a summary chart on weather condition and direction for each date will assist us to find out if there is anything relate to weather which contributes to the epidemic transmission. The population graph with contrast of daytime population vs population density by each zone will be built to help us understand the population movement linked to the infectious areas.
