Overview

Smartpolis is a major metropolitan area with a population of approximately two million residents. During the last few days, health professionals at local hospitals have noticed a dramatic increase in reported illnesses.

Observed symptoms are largely flu­like and include fever, chills,sweats, aches and pains, fatigue, coughing, breathing difficulty, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and enlarged lymph nodes. More recently, there have been several deaths believed to be associated with the current outbreak. City officials fear a possible epidemic and are mobilizing emergency management resources to mitigate the impact.

Epidemic Cause

The epidemic is originated by a oil spill in the middle west area along the bridge. There has been various blogs on this spill which has been caused by a truck accident. This to be precise has been reported from the location 42.22655N, 93.42752W.

Hypothesis

The text explorer was used to find out the most common phrases. One of them was a oil spill which seemed very odd from the rest. Filtering these phrases, and breaking down the blogs we can find that there has been a truck accident in the locality. This is on about 400 above blogs and around the particular area. Filtering the causes further seemed to have originated around the area after the particular incident.

Causes

The causes has been both airbone and waterborne through the river. Initially there has been more symptoms of airborne such as breathing and other lung related issues. Further the cause has been based out of waterborne infections. The text explorer has been used to get the most common phrases which has given an idea of symptoms,this was later used in excel to model the data to be used in jmp and tableau for further analysis.
